Are you 70.5 or older with a traditional IRA? If so, you’re eligible to make a tax-free donation directly from your IRA to Pottery Northwest, regardless of whether or not you itemize on your return. Donating to Pottery Northwest directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is both convenient and a tax-wise way to support the organization you love.
The SECURE Act increases the age individuals must begin taking Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from their retirement savings from 70½ to 72
You may still make a gift from your IRA if you are 70½ years of age on the date of the gift
Funds must be transferred directly to Pottery Northwest or other charity from your IRA
If you are 70½ years of age or older (but under 72), any QCDs, though excluded from taxable income, may be included in calculating your future Required Minimum Distributions
Please always consult your financial advisor to determine how donating through your retirement fund applies to your specific situation.
To process your donation please, please contact your financial advisor or the company that services your IRA. Please notify us directly when you donate from your IRA – including the amount and financial institution name. Financial institutions send us checks without the donor’s name, so it’s important you let us know so we can thank you!

Why Give?
Pottery Northwest is a community-centered ceramics institution in the Pioneer Square neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. We believe that making and appreciating art is essential to the nourishment of the human spirit.
Increase Access + Equity
Your donation helps Pottery Northwest fulfill our commitment to ensure that anyone can experience the creative self-expression, thoughtful education, and friendship that our community offers, regardless of their ability to pay. All of our classes and events are offered with a sliding scale model. We also have a robust scholarship program to cover tuition for our classes and camps that creates access for over 150 students per year. We are committed to racial equity and economic justice, and are working to identify and eliminate racial and socio-economic barriers to our programs.
Inspire Artistic Innovation
Pottery Northwest has fostered the creative, intellectual and professional growth for emerging and established ceramics artists since its founding. Our Instructors, Apprentices, and Staff enrich our community in many different ways, sharing their knowledge and expertise through classes, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and hands-on instruction. Donations to Pottery Northwest support our local arts leaders in both strengthening our programs and having space and resources to be able to build their own body of work and skill.
Foster Connection
Participation in the Arts is a powerful way of encouraging dialogue about our society, building social inclusion, and improving overall quality of life. Pottery Northwest is striving to be a home where cultures, identities, and creative perspectives intersect and flourish. Your support sustains the spaces where this is made possible—our community studio, our public gallery, our major events, and our partner programs that reach beyond Pioneer Square.
