Tuition Assistance

Pottery Northwest acknowledges the financial barrier to entry to the arts. To support interested students in developing their ceramic creativity and skills, we offer sliding-scale tuition assistance to those who find it difficult to afford the full price of our tuition and fees.

Applications are now open!

The priority application deadline is Thursday, May 2nd. Applications received by this date will hear back by end of day Tuesday, May 7th. Applications received after this date will be awarded on a rolling basis until all assistance seats are filled, or the deadline on May 2nd, whichever comes first. Expect to hear back within 5 business days. Applications will close on Monday, June 3rd.

The BIPOC Community Fund is intended for members of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities who are low to middle-income and otherwise could not afford the full-price of our classes, workshops, or studio access memberships. The goal of this fund is to intentially support excluded and under-resourced groups in gaining access to the arts. As requests for the BIPOC Community Fund grows, applying does not automatically guarantee award or enrollment.

Need-Based Scholarship

Pottery Northwest offers sliding-scale financial support to low to middle-income folks experiencing financial hardship who are unable to afford the full price of our classes, workshops, or studio access memberships. As the number of our scholarship applicants grows, applying does not automatically guarantee award or enrollment.

Details

  • The BIPOC Community Fund and Need-Based scholarships are intended to support individuals who find it difficult to afford the full price of tuition. This fund is not intended for individuals who have the financial means to pay full price or want to take multiple classes, with one class at a free or reduced cost. It is not equitable for an individual to take multiple classes with one at a reduced or free rate, while another interested student is unable to afford one class or quarter of studio access.

As such, Pottery Northwest asks that you consider the funds and space you are taking up by applying for tuition assistance. Funds are limited, if you can afford classes or studio access at full cost, please do not take the scholarship funding from another interested student who cannot afford tuition costs.

Students who accept tuition assistance and then sign up for another class or studio access at full price will be dropped from the class they were awarded tuition assistance for and their tuition assistance will be redistributed to another scholarship applicant. Due to the lower cost of our workshops and the short length, it is permitted for students to accept tuition assistance for a class or studio access and also signup for one of our workshops at full price.

  • Need-based scholarship: Low and middle-income folks or anyone experiencing financial hardship who needsf free or reduced-cost tuition.

BIPOC Community Fund: Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) folks who are low to middle-income and otherwise could not afford the full price of our tuition.

When reviewing applications we prioritize applicants who are new to ceramics and have never received tuition assistance from Pottery NW before. As such, if you are a returning tuition assistance recipient, your chances of receiving funding is lower.

  • Applicants who submit their tuition assistance application by the priority deadline listed in their application will be notified of their status prior to registration opening.

Applications received after the priority deadline will be awarded on a rolling basis until all assistance seats are filled, whichever comes first. Expect to hear back within 5 business days.

    • Applying to one of our tuition assistance funds does not guarantee award or enrollment.

    • Tuition assistance is limited to one class or studio access membership per student each quarter.

    • Tuition assistance is intended for the class, workshop, or studio access you are awarded it for and is non-transferable to another class.

    • Assistance funds are intended for the quarter they are awarded in and cannot be rolled over to future quarters or transferred to another person. All applicants must reapply for assistance in future class quarters.

    • If you were awarded assistance in the past, tuition assistance is not guaranteed for future quarters, but you are welcome to apply for tuition assistance each quarter as you need it.

  • Questions or comments related to tuition assistance can be sent to info@potterynorthwest.org.

If you were awarded tuition assistance and can no longer attend the class or studio access, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your assistance to another applicant. Refunds for any payments you made are subject to our standard refund policy found here.

Send all refund and withdrawal requests to info@potterynorthwest.org.

Pottery Northwest wishes we could offer tuition assistance to anyone who needs it. However, funds are limited each quarter, and submitting an application to either one of our funds does not guarantee award or enrollment.
